A steer branded Murder

bull1

Gilliland feuded with Henry Harrison Powe

And one day they decided to go toe-to-toe

Powe went to Boot Hill

Cowboys say, “A clean kill”

And the steer with the brand tells the law what they know

A steer with the “Murder” brand

For years did wander the land

An odd Texas mystery

But true to its history

When a posse of Rangers killed Fine Gilliland

I had a feeing it was…sounds like an interesting story. Nice limerick, my friend; you’re no one-trick-pony when weaving words. 🙂

It was an interesting story, and just one of the periods in history that I like to delve into on occasion. And thanks for the kind words, my dear Partner in Poetry.

I’ve noticed that the Old West interests you. Did you ever think you would have enjoyed living then…would have felt more at home in your own skin?

I definitely love the wide open spaces, Cathy. And you know I’ve even lived in the wilderness for a few years. And there were certain traditions and codes that people followed then that I prefer to present day. But all times have their pros and cons. But I’ve thought about it every now and then, like a writer does when he’s staring at a blank page.

I’m too much of a wimp to give up my creature comforts, JW, but I understand what you mean about the traditions and codes of conduct our society has lost. Simpler times have their appeal…at least to those of us who care about basic values.

Maybe now the creature comforts hold sway, but I recall several of your stories when basic comforts were not present in your life, my friend. And as a country gal you know how to do things most city gals have never dreamed of. But I’m definitely with you on the basic values.

I could go back and get on fine if had to, but I like running water, an indoor bathroom, and air conditioning. I am spoiled. 🙂 I’m off to bed now, goodnight and sweet dreams, my wonderful friend.

At my age, I’m probably a little spoiled too. Goodnight and sweet dreams to you as well, Pretty Lady.
