Red Sisters

[Inspired be two well-known Native American authors having a squabble over who is “More Indian than thou” and which one represents the Native American way the best.]

Why must you argue red sisters?

Chirping and clucking – clucking and chirping

“More Indian than thou,” says she

Perhaps Coyote is again under the skin

Red on red should not be anger

Green Monster should not be released

She and she are both quite rare

Rare as the White Buffalo

The words of one are grand

The words of the other are deep

Talent is talent

Talent is a gift

Gifts are to be shared

Sisters – make peace

Since you write “sisters” I assume you are speaking of two women. Might as well expect the sun to rise in the west. 🙂

I hope not, my friend. Maturity is available to all if they simply make the right choices. But, like you, I have seen feuds go on for long periods.

And that’s a real shame. I hope it doesn’t happen in this situation, but some people hold onto the false pride instead of true pride.

All too often they do, JW. I’m off to bed now, my wonderful friend. Good night and sweet dreams.

Very well written. I have seen so many of our people argue over the “more Native than thou” argument. I believe it was started by the predominant culture’s requiring of “quantum” blood to participate in traditional religious ceremonies. Unfortunately, our community has taken up their cause for them. I applaud your effort to put an end to the practice.

Thank you for your response. The longer we keep fighting ourselves, the longer it takes for any positives to take effect within the community. So I appreciate your view.
